One Minute History — Case Study
Creating engaging scripts for popular history series
THE CHALLENGE
Information means nothing if you can’t communicate it in a compelling way. For many people, learning about history isn’t the ideal way to spend a Saturday night. But learning doesn’t have to be limiting. One Minute History takes a casual, fun, and educational approach to distill complex subject matter into engaging videos. As a staff writer on the team, I’m lucky enough to be a part of this process on a weekly basis.
THE SOLUTION
As someone who constantly has one foot in the entertainment space and one foot in branding, I strive to merge creative with strategy regardless of the project. When it comes to One Minute History, I always start by thinking of the viewer: What would they be interested in? How do they want to receive information? How much info is too much info? From there, I pitch topics accordingly to producers and proceed with research, and scriptwriting — always thinking about how visuals and text can work together to tell a unique story in a concise, clear, and compelling way.
THE OUTCOME
As a result of One Minute History, viewers of all ages can learn about lesser-known historical facts and events in a fun and engaging way. The takeaway is clear: don’t just have something to say, know how to say it.
